MotionSpeed

What is MotionSpeed?

MotionSpeed is an application designed to analyze motion in videos. The key focus of the application is to graph the velocity of moving objects. You, the user, simply click on the video where the object is, the software then calculates the velocity of the object.

Very Important, Video Calibration!

Before MotionSpeed can calculate the speed of motion in the video it must be calibrated for you camera.

The calibration is performed by placing the calibration strip (included in the box) measuring a distance of one meter in the video.

How can a video in MotionCoach be quickly launched into MotionSpeed?

One simple click of a button. A button on the gallery is called "MotionSpeed", see the button below. To view a video in MotionSpeed simply select the video you want in the gallery, and press the "MotionSpeed" button.

How are postion points placed on the video?

In the picture at the top of the page you can see a video with serveral red points placed on it. To place a point on the screen just move the mouse on the video and click the mouse button.  A number will be placed on the screen and the video will be advanced one frame.

After a minimum of three points have been placed on the video you can calculate the velocity of the object.

How are position points Moved/Changed?

If you move the mouse over an existing point and click the Right mouse button, the point will be removed. The next point placed will have the same number as the one just removed.

Before the velocity can be calculated, all points must be in sequence with no gaps. For example you place points 1 through 10, then remove point 5, the calculation of velocity will not work .

How do you Graph the data?

Once the points have been placed of the video, press the "Graph Data" button on the bottom of the window.

Can more than one graph be plotted?

Yes. You must delete all the points and place other position points on the video. Click the "Graph Data" button. You will see two graphs allowing you to compare the velocities.

Up to 16 lines can be ploted.

Are there special requirements for the video ?

Yes, but they are simple.

Simply configure the video capture module to caputure at 30 frames per second. All the velocity calculations are based on 1/30th of a second between video frames .  If you capture videos at a different frame rate the velocity results will be wrong.

Can the results be printed?

T he File /Print, or Print Icon can be pres sed resulting in a printed report of the video and the graph.

Can I zoom into the video?

Yes, the video control works the same way as the Play Control in MotionCoach. If you press and hold down the "Ctrl" keyboard key and click in to the video with the mouse button, you will zoom the video, to back out, click on the right mouse button.

Also the tool bar can be used to zoom the video.

Customize the Application?

Yes you can. Click on the menu option "View/Customize" to open a application customization window. You can change the colour of the background, colour and font of the title, create new and customize tool bars, anything you want!
