This is a help screen for blue screen blending.

What is Blue Screen Blending?

The Blue Screen Blender is the component used to combine two videos together. This component can change the position, transparency and size of the blending. The term Blue Screen is used because where ever the color blue appears in the video it becomes clear.

What videos are required for blending?

Unlike Extraction or Freezing, the Blender uses result videos from the Extracter Engine.  The other video (video with student) can be any regular captured video. Size and length do not need to match the Extracted video.

Where is the Blender stored and how do you start it?

The Blender is located in the Tools area of the Navigation Bar. You can also start the Motion Blender from the Menu option File/Open/Video Blender.

To start this component click on the "Motion Blender" ICON.

What are the parts of the user interface?

When the Blender starts it displays an interface with two empty video areas, a tool bar and video offset configuration window.

When you drop a video in the student area (Left) the orange offset bar will appear. The same is true for the model video except this offset bar is blue. Directly above and below the offset bars are video position controls, these appear as little arrows. These arrows are connected to each other, moving one is the same as moving both. These arrows control where in the video the two video windows are displaying.

The video position controls are used to control the offset between the two videos. The bars look like movie film, the idea is that they look like two films on a table that need to offset to match the motion that occurs in the film. Both can move, but normally you need only need to move the video which is longer (typically the student). To move the offset bar just click and drag the bar. You can use the arrows of the keyboard once the bar is highlighted by a bright rectangle.

The bar with the Green and Red dots indicate where the blending will start and end. Again you can control the positions by clicking of the dot and dragging it to a different location.  If you click in the middle of the bar the whole thing can be moved.

The tool bar at the top of the Motion Blending window contains a number of buttons used to Start/Stop and configure the blending parameters.

How to configure the blend?

1. Use the gallery component to find a student video.  When located drag and drop this video on to the left hand window panel, this panel is called "Student Video".
2. Again use the gallery to find the blue (extracted) video, this is the video produced by the extraction engine. When located drag and drop this video on the right window panel, this panel is called "Extracted Video".
3. Move the video position arrow to the ball impact point in the model swing. Next move the offset bar of the student video across so that the two videos are synchronized on ball impact.  Finally use the start and finish bar to mark the start and end points of the resulting video. Again, as in the play control the top arrow is used to select the position where the videos will be shown in the panels.
4. To adjust the position, transparency and size of the blending, click on the tool bar button called "Blend Pos". This will activate the screen shown below.

The slider bar controls the transparency the arrow buttons control the position offsets. The plus (+) and minus (-) buttons control the relative zooming factor. To close the window clicks the OK button.
5. To start the blending process, close the Blend Pos windows and then click on the tool bar button called "Start" the Start/Finish bar in the timeline will indicate the progress of the operation.

After complete two, more clips can be processed.

  How to configure the compression?

On the toolbar there is a button called "Compress", this button is used to configure the type of video compression to use when blending the videos.

The video quality control on the left side of the window allows you to configure a trade off between quality and size of the video. The results will depend of the video engine selected. The drop down list on the left side will display the complete list of video compression engines on your computer.

Once the compression type has been selected the setting will be saved and restored the next time you use the blending engine. Note that some of the compression engines in the list may not work as they require special video formats.
