MotionCAD FS and CD Creation
This page provides help on MotionCAD FS (for students). Below is the autostart program that
your MotionCoach CD can provide. Professional looking, easy for you
and the simple for the student.

What
is MotionCAD FS ?
MotionCAD FS is a
read-only version of MotionCAD. The purpose of MotionCAD
FS was to provide a vehicle to deliver lessons to your students.
Not
only to deliver
them in some 2 dimensional video tape format but to allow interactive review of the complete dynamic lesson.
When someone receives a
lesson from you, MotionCAD FS allows them to review your voice notes, play/pause/rewind the video,
zoom in/out, print, basically interact with the lesson you provide. The students get more and will share it with others, building your business.
How to
use?
When you have finished a lesson with someone, even if
the
lesson used a template, save the lesson you did
with the student. When you do this MotionCAD will create a new
???.mtn file on your disk.
What you have on the hard drive is a video of the student (MV_???.avi)
the New MotionCAD file and possibly one other file that you used as a
model in the lesson.
To give this to the student you need to burn these files to a CD, plus
the MotionCAD FS installation kit.
MotionCAD FS
installation kit?
The MotionCAD FS
installation kit is distributed on your MotionCoach CD. It is stored
on a sub-directory on the CD, the sub-directory's name is "redist". This
subdirectory contains all the support and installation files required for
MotionCAD FS, including an Autostart script for the CD, a startup
application as shown above, quick start guide and MotionCAD FS
installation
program
.
What
files go on the
CD?
As
mentioned above you need the MotionCAD lesson file (mtn) and any videos that
are used in the lesson file. Voice-overs, bitmaps, lines used in the lesson
are all stored within the MotionCAD file. You must also include all the
files in the MotionCAD FS
installation kit.
All of these files must go
into the root directory of the CD, so there should
be no subdirectories on the CD when you have finished writing
it.
Where is the software for writing
the CD
?
Already installed on your computer, you should use the program that came
with your computer, or with your CDWR
. CDRW drives have different interfaces so some software will work on
some drives. So there is not something that could be included with MotionCoach that
could be guaranteed to work on all programs.
How does MotionCAD FS find video
files
?
Something to
be aware of is how MotionCAD finds it's video files and what
is stored inside the MotionCAD file. Inside the MotionCAD file we
store the full path and file name. This means something like "C:/Program Files/MotionCoach/videos/mv_????.avi" is the reference
to the video file. MotionCAD will always try to find the video there first.
The problem is that when you move
everything to a CD the video and the MotionCAD file are now on the CD
which has the drive letter "E:\". To solve this problem MotionCAD will
also look for the video "mv_????.avi" in the directory where the
MotionCAD file is stored. So as long as the MotionCAD file is
stored in the same location as the videos it uses the files could be
stored anywhere.
Is
there anything
else that could go wrong?
Yes, first of
all the student could have a Mac, MotionCAD only works on Windows 98se
through to
XP. The other thing to be careful of is OLE objects.
OLE object could also reference files
for example MS-WORD files.
If the student's computer does not
have MS-WORD then the they will not be able to open that part of the file.
Also if the OLE object reference a file on disk and you did not include
that file, it is likely the MotionCAD file will not
open.
